We all know the importance of signs. If it weren’t for the signs that govern our highways, we’d be lost. This also rings true in our spiritual life… if the Lord did not guide us through signs, we would be inundated and lost.

The Holy Spirit helps us to interpret the signs that GOD gives us from time to time to make us aware of the progress we are making.

While I have listed 10 signs that GOD gave to Joshua and the Israelites on their journey to the promised land, you may find most or a few of them depending on how GOD is leading you, but I hope I have covered all possible signs. . Because this is the largest portion of the Scriptures where we see so many signs of GOD! Amen.

In the Book of Joshua, we see GOD’s people making this long journey to the promised land. Moses is dead and Joshua has to take his place and lead the Israelites to the land flowing with milk and honey. Although it may seem disconcerting to Joshua, GOD assured him that he would be with him just as he was with Moses. Joshua thus encouraged is ready to take on the enormous task.

This trip is very symbolic of our spiritual journey because it is characterized by fear, uncertainty, opposition, but well complemented by strength, favor and divine help. Amen.

So this brings us to the first sign.

  • Sign #1: GOD speaks to us and prepares our hearts for success. He gives us hope that he will be with us on our journey and help us along the way. Amen.

So we read in verse 7,

Joshua {1:7} Just be strong and very brave

And further on in verse 8:

Joshua {1:8}:

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth; but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it; because then you will make your way prosperous, and everything will work out for you.

In verse 11, we hear Joshua speak prophetically to the people that they would cross the Jordan in 3 days.

Joshua {1:11}:

‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you will cross this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you to possess.’

How did you know they would leave in 3 days? It comes from the Lord and He knew it! Amen.

Child of GOD, the Lord will use His prophets to speak an inspired Word through the Spirit of GOD in your situation. This could be a divine encounter with an angel of GOD or a message from a gifted prophet. Many of these cases are evidenced throughout the Bible, for example, when the angel Gabriel comes to Mary and announces the good news. Even today GOD sends his angels to reveal his plan and his timing to the devotees. GOD always reaffirms himself through his chosen instruments!

Thus we arrive at:

  • Sign #2: He reveals His will through an inspired word.

Joshua then sends 2 spies to check out the land. The two spies return after 3 days and set out to cross the Jordan the next day.

Joshua {2:22}:

And they went and came to the mountain, and they stayed there three days, until the persecutors returned, and the persecutors searched for them all the way, and found them not.

Joshua {3:1}:

And Joshua rose early in the morning; And departing from Shittim, he and all the children of Israel came to the Jordan, and settled there before crossing over.

Why is this little detail that you raise in 3 days important or significant? Because it sends us a message that GOD was actually working behind the scenes, arranging their circumstances so that His Word would be fulfilled, that is, to allow them to cross the Jordan in 3 days! This is a very significant event because it shows the faithfulness of GOD, that He is in control. Amen.

so we have

  • Sign #3: He will bring His inspired word to pass.

This is exactly what I mean by a sign. And they are so easy to miss if one does not search with a reflective heart. We need to be very aware within our hearts that GOD has indeed done what might have seemed impossible at first. We have to be sensitive to what the Lord does because it is in all these small miracles that GOD can reveal to us the power and glory of him and we know that we serve an ALMIGHTY GOD.

  • Sign number 4: He sends the right people into your life to help you.

Joshua {1:16} And they answered Joshua, saying, Whatever you command us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.

GOD raises up people to help us in our times of need. He makes all things work together for our good.

  • Sign No. 5: Put the fear of the Lord in the heart of the enemy and the enemy will know that he will fall. In some cases, GOD even made the enemy confess that He will do what He promised. For example, Saul spoke to David and confessed that GOD had indeed given him victory (1 Samuel 26:25).

So when the spies meet Rahab, what does she have to tell them? That the entire enemy nation melted with fear because the Lord GOD had given them the land.

Joshua {2:9}:

And she said to the men: I know that the Lord has given you the land, and that your terror has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the earth faint because of you.

  • Sign No. 6: He will magnify and exalt you in the eyes of all. He will make his face shine upon you and he will have mercy on you. The people you lead will bear witness to your virtue because of Christ and will follow you resolutely.

Joshua {3:7}:

And Jehovah said to Joshua: From this day I will begin to magnify you in the eyes of all Israel, so that they may know that as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.

  • Sign #7: He will do the impossible and leave a memorial to remind you of His greatness.

In the case of the Israelites, the Lord caused the waters of the Jordan to stand still and stand still as a heap.

Joshua {3:13}:

And it will come to pass that when the soles of the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan will be cut off from the waters that come down from on high; and they will be on a lot.

You will have a lasting memorial before you ALWAYS of His mighty power in action and you will know without a doubt that this could NOT have happened without the Lord. It’s a good idea to write down these events when you know without a doubt that the Lord has moved in your life. Amen!

Joshua {4:22-24}:

And he spoke to the children of Israel, saying: When tomorrow your children ask their parents, saying: What do these stones mean? {4:22} Then you shall tell your sons, saying, Israel passed this Jordan dry. John 4:23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you, until you passed by, as the LORD your God did the Red Sea, which dried up before us, until we had passed over: {4:24} so that Let all the peoples of the earth know the hand of the Lord, which is mighty, so that you may fear the Lord your God forever.

  • Sign #8: He will cleanse and sanctify you to prepare you to enter into the blessing. Amen. This reveals the holy nature of GOD.

The Israelites had to be circumcised to prepare to enter the Holy Land.

Joshua {5:2}:

At that time Jehovah said to Joshua: Make yourself sharp knives, and circumcise the children of Israel a second time.

  • Sign #9: He will assure you of His Presence and unfailing love to boost your faith and trust in the midst of war.

As the Israelites prepared for battle, GOD sent an angel to further guide them and lead them on the path of victory!

This shows the loving heart of GOD and his perfect understanding of our weaknesses. When we are weak, then He is strong! Amen.

GOD had already brought great fear to his enemies so much so that no one was allowed to enter or leave the city of Jericho. The Israelites knew this but GOD still knew that their fears of him were real to them. So he sent his angel to tell them about the technique he had planned for them to gain victory. And what a marvelous technique indeed! — one that would bring him the ultimate glory! They would have to circle the city walls several times for seven days and when the long trumpet blast sounded, the wall would collapse on its own! Hallelujah!

So they would not have a single doubt that GOD was before them. Amen.

GOD loves us very much, doesn’t he?

  • Sign number 10: He causes His people to raise a cry of victory to Him and bring Him glory!

Joshua {6:5}:

And it will come to pass that when they blow the ram’s horn long, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people will shout with great joy; and the wall of the city will collapse, and the people will go up each straight ahead of it.

It is the heart of GOD to guide and guide us and finally give us victory.

The Christian walk becomes easier when we learn to interpret the signs that GOD shows us. These little signs are built into the journey along the way so that one does not get tired or discouraged.

The signs become more and more evident to us as we become aware in our hearts and sensitized to His ways. When the Pharisees asked Jesus for a sign, He asked them to be aware in their hearts.

See Matthew {16:1-3}:

Demand for a sign

The Pharisees and Sadducees approached Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.

He replied: “When night comes, you say: ‘The weather will be fine, because the sky is red,’ and in the morning: ‘Today there will be a storm, because the sky is red and cloudy.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but You don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times.

Why does Jesus rebuke them for not being able to interpret the signs? Because ALL creation KNOWS his Creator and there is no excuse.

Novels {1:20}:

“For since the creation of the world, the invisible qualities of God, his eternal power and his divine nature, have been made clearly visible, being understood of what has been done, so that people have no excuse”.

The signs help us maintain the momentum we build up with our obedience because when we see intermediate results, it is a shift from believing to KNOW! You know that your efforts are paying off and that your patience and perseverance are paying off. It’s like cold water for a weary soul! Being encouraged in this way, you build up anticipation and expectation that releases more and more power into your situation until a perceptible change occurs and the miracle manifests. Amen. Glory to Jesus!

GOD always works through us. So we must surrender to Him and cooperate with Him as we learn to read His signs so that we can enter the promised land. Amen.

May you be hurt in your walk with GOD.

All glory belongs to Jehovah forever and ever. Hallelujah!!!
