His boxing merchandise and memorabilia are extremely popular, not only in his native Philippines, but the rest of the world as well. But is it the best there is right now?

Generally, Manny Pacquiao is recognized as the # 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport of boxing. This is high status, and Pacquiao has earned his place there after moving up to welterweight and beating Ricky Hatton, Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto along the way. During his tenure in the lighter weight classes, of course, he had epic encounters with Juan Manuel Márquez, Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera and he also won.

These are some very striking achievements, and Pacquiao is also an extremely exciting fighter. That’s another reason why his boxing memorabilia and sports memorabilia are so popular today. He doesn’t go into a fight to focus on defense or to try to survive on a close decision win. He goes into a fight to knock out the other guy and win emphatically, and fans love his style and personality.

Even though Pacquiao is the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter, there is at least one other fighter claiming the throne. That man is the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr., and he was actually the best pound for pound until he temporarily retired from the sport. In retirement he gave way to Pacquiao, and since returning from retirement he has only fought once so far.

However, he has a long and storied career in the sport, spanning many different weight classes. He has also beaten Hatton and De La Hoya, and beat them both before Pacquiao. He has also beaten fighters like José Luis Castillo, Diego Corrales, Genaro Hernández, and Zab Judah.

The two were supposed to meet in an epic meeting in March 2010, however the negotiations fell through. The fight would have established the score for who is the best fighter in the world. It would also have created a whirlwind of interest in boxing memorabilia for the fighters and sports memorabilia from the entire fight and event. However, ultimately no agreement could be reached and, for now, the two men will move in different directions.

This has left the boxing world without a clear answer to the question of who is the best. Yes, Pacquiao is pound-for-pound king right now and his boxing memorabilia is rightfully extremely popular and valuable. However, the undefeated Floyd Mayweather can certainly claim that he is also the best.
