Breaking into the world of fantasy with a significant contribution is no easy task, but Aaron Safronoff managed to do just that with Sunborn Rising: Beneath the Fall. Actually, this is only the first book in the series and it is the key that unlocks the doors to a magically fresh universe. This young adult fantasy thriller is nothing more than the Sunborn Ascent experience, which extends far beyond the colorful pages of the book.

A world that looks a bit like ours is on the brink of darkness. At the center of it all is a sun floating in an ocean and this is the source of life for the islands of floating trees that cover the planet. But there is a disturbance in the flow of life and the world risks falling into darkness. Salvation is uncertain and lies in the hands of the most unlikely hero.

Our main guides to this world are Barra, a young Listlespur, a feline humanoid, along with her two best friends Plicks, a bat-like Kolalabat, and Tory, a Rugosik, a humanoid puppet. Barra begins wanting to know more about her deceased father, so she sneaks into her study and finds her diary hidden from her. But her writing not only strengthens the father-daughter bond, it also propels Barra and her friends on the adventure of a lifetime. They learn that their existence is threatened by darkness, and driven by curiosity, they set out to explore the uncharted territories of the Middens surrounding their Loft. But things don’t go exactly as planned and they fall from the comfort of their leafy ties to the muddy root. There, a new unknown world unfolds before them, full of dangers, enemies, but also allies and wonders. But now they are struggling to find their way to the Loft and also to bring light back to their home.

Tea Sunborn Ascent The series is clearly aimed at a younger audience, so the occasionally simplistic narrative serves its purpose. The black and white pages are punctuated with colorful images that vividly depict scenes from the magical kingdom. Actually, these images are a valuable support for the reader’s imagination, since some creatures and plants are quite different from our reality.

In fact, Aaron Safronoff did much more than start a series of fantasy books; he laid the foundation for a complex Sunborn Ascent experience. Thus, readers can also immerse themselves in music and art. But more dimensions are about to be added. Games and animated media are in the development stage. One thing is for sure, there is much to explore and even more to come.
