The idea of skateboarding dates back to the days when children built rafts and used logs to float down streams for fun. Also, during winters they used to slide down the icy slopes using sleds. Those were the days when bicycles were very popular but extremely expensive. Not all families can afford one for their children or even themselves. Roller skates, on the other hand, were the best and most affordable alternative to bicycles. But those skates were poorly designed and broke easily. At the same time, they couldn’t serve the same purpose as bicycles, since they didn’t have an attached bike rack, nor could they run as fast as a bicycle.

To make skateboards more useful, kids used to attach a handle to them and make it look like a bicycle without a paddle. That would help them hang a produce bag on the handle and they could use it for different utility purposes like shopping for groceries. This was how a skateboard was used in its early stages.

As time went on and the basic designs began to take on more refined forms, those creative forms of transportation emerged as sports such as bicycling and rollerblading. Adventure skating is one of the forms of transportation that has emerged in recent decades as a sport. Young people have shown a lot of interest in this sport.

In the late 1950s, skateboarding began to reorganize when teenagers used to kill time after school on their skateboards by wandering around the neighborhood, pulling off cool tricks. As the number of skateboarding enthusiasts grew, so did the competition among children. Everyone wants to be the coolest kid on the block, so they started learning new tricks and built inclines and wooden structures in the neighborhood where they could practice and show off those tricks.

As the initial idea of the hobby gained popularity, it was adopted as a sport. This gave those kids a platform to show off their skills and make a living from them. More and more companies began to sponsor events and they were held more frequently. Skaters were given the opportunity to tour and showcase their skills to a larger audience.

Some of the skaters overtook the others and began to perform such dangerous tricks that sporting events did not allow them to face the audience. This gave rise to extreme sports where all the extraordinary bikers and skaters could perform dangerous tricks and show off their skills. They had become so passionate about sports that they are willing to take greater risks and perform stunts that would leave us all in awe!
