First of all, I must admit that I was once a video game addict. It starts when you buy your first console. A person, especially children, will play with his gaming systems for hours on end when he first purchases a gaming system. At first, this doesn’t seem like much, but this “binge gaming” turns into something much worse.

As new gamers progress, they begin to make time for video games. An example of this would be setting a time to finish homework so you can play a game. Tip number one is: NEVER make time to play a video game. Let the time be time to play video games. If you let the game create its own time in your life, you are essentially allowing it to take control.

MMORPGs are perhaps the most addictive video games. You can spend hours playing WoW or Runescape, but never get to the level or place you wanted. This leads to overkill and, in turn, addictive behavior. Tip number two is: set reasonable goals in the game to maintain a positive experience and also to keep your time under control.

When you get everything under control with gaming, it won’t feel like a job, but rather a hobby or pastime. You will not feel a great desire to play because it is not a big deal for you.

When all is said and done, if you still have a feverish gaming addiction, my solution is: just become a video game tester or get a job within the industry. Game testers are not considered addicted because they work within the industry. You don’t even have to be a professional or a teacher to become one. They are paid well as you advance in the gaming industry and gain experience. Why not give it a try if you have a strange fondness for gaming? Work at Gamestop if you are passionate about gaming because others will be happy to listen to your advice.

Video game addiction is becoming a serious matter as the number of gamers continues to grow around the world. Do not lose your sense of reality and remember my two main tips to keep it in check: never make time to play a game and set reasonable goals in the game. Play in the players!
