The mere mention of the words Ark of the Covenant evokes different reactions in different people. The Internet is littered with literature from scholars and historians who have devoted their life time to research aimed at unraveling the mystery of the disappearance of the treasured chest, said to contain the two stone tablets, which God commanded Moses to prepare, after getting excited. breaking the originals.

It is on the last tablets that God, using His own hand, inscribed the Ten Commandments. The tablets were placed in a chest, whose dimensions were precise, given to Moses by God in person as explained in the book of Exodus 25; 9 – 10. Scholars can trace the whereabouts of the chest to around 600 BC. The chest is said to possess a mysterious power. When carried by the Israelites, they enjoyed special powers and protection as explained in the Holy Scriptures. Josue; 3; 15 -16 4; 7-18.

This brings us back to the question, does the Ark really exist? Would God allow such a coveted item to disappear without a trace? If it is hidden somewhere, would it still possess the mysterious power that it originally had?

According to research authorized by Kenya-based Unesco, whose findings have been shared with locals through a weekly radio program, the Ark EXISTS INTACT. In fact, it has been in the country since the year 1210 when it was brought from Ethiopia via the Kenyan coast. A replica of the trunk was made on the Kenyan coast, but the original was taken to Mount Kenya, where it was kept for all those years.

The communities living around the mountain, namely the Gikuyu, Embu and Meru called the mountain Kirinyaga, which translates as the seat of God. Many of them know that the mountain has a special link with God and that when they pray facing the mountain, which was their form of worship for generations before the beginning of Christianity, God always answered their prayers promptly.

In fact, when the accredited elders prepared to climb the mountain to intercede with God on behalf of the communities during a prolonged drought, it is said that they always fell under a heavy downpour. That used to happen often after every two years.

What most members of the communities living today have learned from the program is that there was an alliance of these communities with God, to reaffirm their commitment to Him every fifty years. That used to happen constantly until the year 1928 when the British colonizers imposed laws that denied the Gikuyu, Embu and Meru communities to worship in the forest of Mount Kenya, or even in front of it, ending the customs as backward and uncivilized.

However, members of the community have been urged to review customs, fasting and repenting in preparation for further reconciliation with God. The climax is scheduled to be between November 20 and 23, 2007. Then all business of the enterprising members of the communities will be suspended. All the people have been asked to pray and stay in their houses for three days. On the 24th, they are meant to make peace with their neighbors by sharing meals as a symbol of reconciliation. On the 25th, the elders will send a representative to give a press conference and explain what was happening on the three special days. It is at this conference that for the first time, the residents of Kenya are expected to make it public that they are in fact the custodians of the Original Ark of the Covenant.

This is an occasion that religious scholars around the world cannot miss. In fact, the sequence of events is being closely monitored from all over the world. Although the program is presented in the Gikuyu dialect, the host continues to tell the listener that he knows people who have learned the language on purpose to be a part of what is happening.

The ‘spies’ come mainly from the US, Britain and Israel. Whatever happens over the three days, there will be events with far-reaching historical and religious implications that are likely to trigger not only worldwide debate, but much more interest in Mount Kenya and Kenya as a country.

We’ll keep you posted on what happens over the three days and update you on the press conference. Look at this space.
