We love to eat tasty, juicy and fatty food, anything edible or desired by our heart. We do this to ourselves despite the news that diabetes is spreading at an alarming rate. Every day the number changes as we consume foods with no nutritional value to the body. Recent information just released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows new estimates that are clearly alarming. Some of the causes are foods like tripe, pig’s feet, fried chicken, fried fish, pickled pig’s feet, and eggs. Many are unaware that eating in a hurry and not taking the time to let our food digest are also causes.

Advertisers make food look harmless. Then they push the drugs for you to consume once you’ve eaten that processed, non-nutritious food. With nearly 26 million Americans now diabetic and an estimated 79 million adults prediabetic, a ticking time bomb has gone off: fat America with a processed fork in one hand and a needle in the other.

This madness has to stop! First Lady Michelle Obama’s program on obesity and health awareness has brought this issue to the fore, but who is really listening? We believe that nothing can happen to our body, but we look in the mirror and think about 10 or 20 years ago. What have you noticed in yourself? We must change the way we eat and realize that some foods are not meant to be eaten. With the advent of genetically modified foods, which allow food to be grown at a faster rate, cheaper, and without nutrients, you’ll find even more foods that do more harm than good on your supermarket shelves. Just look at what you get in a $1 burger – lots of fat and calories. However, a small fresh salad costs $3.50. What you eat is important to your overall health.

Obesity and diabetes affect all of us in some way, from family, loved ones, friends, and increased medical costs. Let’s decide to do something about it today and make the changes necessary to start a health rollback. Now the question should be “what do I eat and where do I start?” The first step is to decide that you are willing to make a lifelong change for yourself. This trip has to be yours and no one else’s. Then, if you’re serious, go to your kitchen and remove anything processed from your pantry: give it away or throw it away. Make a list of good foods that are nutritious. One of the main types of foods to start with are vegetables like turnips, collard greens, Swiss chard, or kale. These have to be consumed daily. Make sure you eat a good breakfast to start your day.

The information on how to reverse obesity and diabetes on the CDC website says that these diseases are preventable, but we must understand and be educated about the benefits of good health. One of the things you should do is surround yourself with a fresh start, including new friends who think like you and eat like you are eating. Get rid of the idea that ‘a little won’t hurt’ because that’s what got you into the shape you are in today.

The challenge is not to eat fast or processed food for fourteen days. The results will surprise you and you will want to tell everyone about it. If you continue like this, you will see a new and healthy person. What do you have to lose? Fresh food is the only way to go. You will have a lot of health and energy. Start your new journey today and let your doctor wean you off all those lifelong medications you thought you’d always need. Yes, you can be free and enjoy your life!
