Now that more people are returning to their Singapore offices, here are some tips for keeping your office’s common areas clean throughout the day.

Step 1:

Make sure your office cleaner is wearing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE). This includes the use of gloves (in case of handling chemical cleaning products) and covered shoes.

Make sure your cleaner has the necessary tools to get the job done. This includes cleaning tools like a vacuum cleaner, mop, bucket, broom, dustpan, cleaning cloths, and safety signs.

Step 2:

Start by dusting or vacuuming the office floors. Pick a time when the office is less busy to vacuum so that the sound doesn’t interrupt or become a nuisance to office staff. Check to make sure the vacuum bag has enough capacity and is not full.

Step 3:

Once the mop or vacuum is complete, proceed to mopping the floor area. Verify that the correct ratio of cleaning chemical is used to the ratio of water for the cleaning solution. Remember to post safety signs where mopping is taking place.

Step 4:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, it is important to pay special attention and detail to cleaning all areas of the office surface, especially the high-frequency contact points such as armrests, keyboards, handles doors, lift buttons, etc.

Use an appropriate industrial grade chemical disinfectant to clean all surface areas. And be sure to wear different colored clothing to clean different surface areas to minimize cross contamination.

Step 5:

When your office cleaner is cleaning the waste paper containers, make sure they tie and remove the used container liners from the trash can. Hold used garbage bags at a distance from your body to avoid contact with sharp objects in used garbage bags. Bulky items should be flattened or broken before disposal.

Alternatively, instead of having individual bins, have a centralized bin so the office cleaner can cut down on cleaning time for individual bins and focus on other cleaning tasks.

Step 6:

When the cleanup is done, verify that your office cleaner has reinstalled the work area. What does this mean?

Have a checklist for this to serve as a reminder for your office cleaner to check off and make sure all cleaning tasks have been completed.

Remove debris / debris and dispose of in appropriate designated area. Remove safety signs only when the floor is dry. Proceed to remove all tools and equipment from the work area.

Last step:

Check that necessary tools and equipment are returned to the storage area. Have gloves and cleaning clothes been properly washed and hung to dry for the next use? Has your office cleaner washed his hands before leaving the premises? Here are some general good practices and hygiene factors to consider when it comes to keeping your office clean.
