There are more than 30 online travel companies in India, not including airlines and other hotel sites. Few of them specialize in a particular field. For the benefit of all visitors to India from all over the world, the top ten sites where you can book your trip to India are as follows:

makemytrip.com – MakeMyTrip, India’s #1 Travel Website, founded and promoted by Mr. Deep Kalra, is the country’s premier website for any travel related products and services. They offer airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals, vacation destinations, and even train reservations now on their website. Makemytrip caters to US/Canada markets, Indian market and recently makemytrip UAE have also started. Makemytrip is now filing its first US IPO and raising around $100 million. They were oversubscribed and raised about $800 million. Its office is based in Gurgaon, India, and has more than 700 employees. His code specialization is in vacation planning and booking, including inbound travellers. It is believed that they are selling more than 8000 tickets a day.

yatra – Yatra is known to be the second best OTA travel website in the country. He has been promoted by Dhruv Shringi along with a couple of other guys, who worked with eBookers before this company. Yatra has been funded by some of the major Indian Reliance groups, TV 18 Group and NVP, and has also recently secured funding from Intel. They specialize in domestic flights. They are also based in Gurgaon, India and have over 600 employees. They also book car rentals, hotels, vacations and train reservations. Currently, they are expected to be selling more than 5,000 tickets per day.

clear trip – Cleartrip was a new entrant in the Indian market about 3 years ago and they are known for their technology. As its name suggests, its technology is very clear and there are no banners or pop-ups on its home page either. They were the first OTAs to integrate with India’s railway reservation system called IRCTC. They are based in Mumbai and have a smaller team compared to Makemytrip or Yatra.

Expedia India – Expedia very recently entered the Indian travel space and is currently focusing on its hotel business. They have yet to integrate LCC (low cost racing) like GoAir, GoIndigo, JetLite, Kingfisher Red etc. in your wallet. But it is certain that within a year they will be leading the Indian market.

Travelocity India – Travelocity is once again a new entrant in the Indian market and they are making rapid progress. They recently bought another OTA hotel called Travelguru. They are being controlled from Singapore.
