The city of Welwyn Garden City – Hertfordshire lies in Hertfordshire in England. The city was established in 1920 as one of the country’s garden cities. Welwyn received town status in 1948.

The town was Sir Ebenezer Howard’s idea. Sir Ebenezer Howard had previously worked at Letchworth Garden City. His idea was a success and he decided to take it elsewhere. Howard was an advocate of urban planning that combined the elements of rural and urban areas. He believed that benefits could be derived from this type of urbanism. The design of the city began in 1919. To create a garden city, land was needed. The ideal location for the city was in Hertfordshire. Sir Howard bought a piece of land in Hertfordshire. The following year preparations for the construction of the garden began. A team of professionals was assembled to design and build the city. The team included an architect, a secretary, and builders. The team was essentially a company known as Welwyn Garden City. Sir Theodore was appointed president of the company, while Louis De Soissons was the architect.

The layout of the city is clear. It consists of tree-lined streets and a downtown area that resembles Neo-Georgian architecture. Bodies for the protection of environmental spaces and municipal management were created. The roads leading in and out of the city are lined with grass curbs.

Along the main road, visitors can see shopping malls and avenues. This area is known as the Parkway. The view from the south side of the Parkway is beautiful. The urban areas are divided into the east side and the west side.
