I recently had the opportunity to visit Sedona, Arizona, which is about 120 miles north of Phoenix. There is certainly no shortage of things to do in the big city, and I thought I would share with you some of the things that I experienced in my brief visit to them. With its breathtaking natural beauty and a climate that any Northerner could envy, Sedona is home to many types of adventure travel and excursions.

One of the best things you can do is go on an adventure on horseback through the nearby canyons. This all-day adventure is provided by a company called “A Day in The West” and begins with a 2-hour jeep tour through great scenic areas, and see where many western movies were filmed. Then hop on your horse for a trip through Dead Horse Ranch State Park, culminating with an all-you-can-eat barbecue dinner and show. The package is great and the price is unbeatable.

Another great outdoor adventure you can try is a river canyon kayak tour. You can also choose to float downstream on a tube, or just lazily float in your kayak. Tours are led by some of the most experienced guides in the area and have a reputation for being very safe and reliable. One of the best parts is that they have a “water and wine” package, which gives you a few hours on the river and then culminates with a wine tour on the river or at their famous nearby winery.

One thing I always wanted to try was an ATV trip across the expanse of the desert, which of course is one of the most fun things you can do in Sedona. Take a guided tour of Skull Mountain and enjoy the 800 feet. view of the area. Free training is included for those who have never ridden an ATV before, and the entire trip is approximately 40 miles and is guided by experts in the area. The prices are reasonable and can be quite competitive with other companies in the area.

Another great idea, especially if you’re looking for a romantic one, is to take a nearby hot air balloon ride. There are some of the most majestic walks you can take, and the great year-round weather and mild winds make it the optimal place to take your loved one.
